Plumbing in a Golf-Course City That Runs Its Own Water
Temple Terrace was laid out in the 1920s around a golf course and incorporated in 1925. Today it counts about 27,000 residents and 12,079 housing units, with a median build year of 1982 and nearly half of households renting. That spread means a 1950s ranch on a quiet plat, a 1980s subdivision near Fowler Avenue and a newer home on the eastern edge can all call us on the same day, each with a different set of likely problems.
The water is the other local constant. The city operates its own utility, and its finished water is very hard, above 300 mg/L. Scale shows up in aerators, tank heaters and fixture valves long before it shows up anywhere else, so many of the services below are, in part, a response to it.

Start with the symptom you can see, hear or read off a meter:
- Water you cannot stop, a dead heater at night or sewage in a tub: emergency plumbing repairs.
- A faucet that drips, a toilet that keeps running or one weak tap: plumbing repairs.
- A new toilet, a tub turned into a shower or a bathroom that is being rebuilt: plumbing installation.
- A meter that moves with every tap closed, or a floor that feels warm: leak detection.
- Cold showers, a rusty ring under the tank or a tankless unit throwing codes: water heater repair and replacement.
- Pinholes in more than one place, or gray plastic pipe in a 1980s house: PEX repiping.
- A slow sink, a gurgling tub or a toilet that will not stay clear: drain cleaning and hydro jetting.
City, County or Tampa: Which Utility Owns the Problem
Three utilities touch the Temple Terrace area. The city runs its own water and collects sewage inside its limits, and its Utilities page lists an after-hours line for water, sewer and street emergencies at 813-506-6590. Some edge addresses, including parts of Raintree and the east half of Riverside, sit near the Tampa line, and the City of Tampa serves its own neighborhoods next door. Hillsborough County serves much of the unincorporated land around it.
The dividing line is the meter. Breaks in the street and faults at the meter are the utility’s; water and drains on the house side are ours. Wells and septic tanks, which turn up on larger lots toward Lutz and Thonotosassa, go to their own contractors, and so does gas piping.
What the Seven Services Cost
Published ranges, so you can plan before calling. After-hours dispatch is $150 to $250. Part swaps such as a cartridge, flapper or supply line cost $125 to $350, and larger repairs $350 to $900. Setting a toilet, faucet or sink runs $200 to $450; roughing in a bathroom runs $1,800 to $4,500. Finding a hidden leak costs $200 to $450 and is credited if we fix it. Heaters range from $1,200 to $2,500 for a tank to $2,200 to $3,500 for a tankless. A whole-house PEX repipe is $4,500 to $12,000, one clogged fixture is $125 to $250 and hydro jetting is $400 to $700. The Temple Terrace FL plumber cost guide explains what moves each number.

CALL 813-733-7188Questions Before You Hire a Temple Terrace Plumber
The city itself, its older and newer plats, and the neighbors around it: Tampa’s Temple Crest, Forest Hills, Sulphur Springs, USF-area, Carrollwood, New Tampa, Lutz, Thonotosassa, Seffner and Brandon. Each has a page under service areas. If your street is not listed, call 813-733-7188 and we will say whether we can reach it.
Check the water bill. Most Temple Terrace addresses are billed by the city’s own utility, whose billing office is 813-506-6420, but the edges of the city, Tampa neighborhoods and unincorporated pockets can be served by the City of Tampa or Hillsborough County instead. Our post on who to call lists all three numbers.
Use the state’s Verify a Licensee search at MyFloridaLicense.com, which accepts a name, license number, city or county. The Department of Business and Professional Regulation answers questions at 850-487-1395. Ask any plumber for the license in writing before work starts, and look up the person as well as the company.
Show us the written quote. We beat any written quote from a licensed competitor, and our free estimates are honored for 30 days, so nobody has to decide on the spot. For anything over about $1,500, a second quote is sensible anyway, and we would rather you compare than guess.
Gas piping, septic tanks and drainfields, well pumps, irrigation and pool plumbing, and sewer excavation or lining, which goes to a licensed underground utility contractor. Main-side breaks and meter faults belong to the utility. Everything on the house side of those lines, from fixtures to supply pipe to house drains, is ours.
